I was in my old haunts last week, in Newburyport, MA to be exact, shopping at Market Basket, one of our local grocery stores.
When they went to bag my groceries, I got a paper bag, just like in the olden days. I just thought they were out of plastic.
Then I went back in a couple of days and the same thing happened, so I asked the cashier if they got rid of their plastic bags and they told me that the city of Newburyport banned retailers from using plastic bags. WOW!!!!! That is pretty awesome. I was elated to hear this news, although it wasn't really new, just new to me.

The ban went into effect on March 29, 2015.

So change does happen, sometimes slowly in this instance with the city of Newburyport, MA, but I'm sure they are just one of the frontiers in the State and slowly the rest of the country will follow suit.
And for those wondering, I usually have several cloth bags in my car that I use when shopping, but they were being used for other items during my vacation on the North Shore.
I look forward to more Green and Eco-friendly changes for our Mother Earth.
