Hot Ginger Aide recipe

Years ago I enjoyed a really delicious "gourmet" type ginger ale in a restaurant.  I later found that same ginger ale at Trader Joes.  This recipe is the closest I have come to find that rich tasting ginger ale without any processed sugar.

This tea is helpful in treating colds, flu, sore throats, congestion, fever, digestive issues and is a great immune booster.

Recipe

Ingredients:
Fresh ginger root
water
fresh lemons or limes
honey
cayenne

Peel and grate fresh ginger root.  about 2-3 TBSP or more if you'd like
Add to boiling water (1 -2 cups) and simmer over low heat for 5-10 minutes, longer is fine.
Remove from heat and add fresh squeezed lemons or limes (start with half of a lemon/lime and add more if you'd like) and honey (to taste/optional).
Sprinkle with a few grains of cayenne.

I enjoy this tea hot or room temperature.  Enjoy anytime of year.

I believe this is a recipe by Rosemary Gladstar, a well-known herbalist, author and teacher.

Some benefits of Ginger include:  it contains high levels of anti-oxidants, it induces sweating which helps to move toxins out of the body, it is anti-inflammatory, relieves nausea and vomiting and it produces digestive juices which aids indigestion.

Cayenne is also a great digestive aid.  It stimulates the digestive tract, increasing the flow of enzyme production and gastric juices. This process aids the body’s ability to metabolize the food and toxins we take into the system. Cayenne increases the pulse of our lymphatic and digestive rhythms and it is a great circulatory stimulant.

Lemons are a great source of Vitamin C and flavonoids that help to combat colds and flu.  They are alkalizing for the body and help to restore the body's ph levels.  And they have powerful antibacterial properties.

Lastly honey is anti-bacterial, anti-septic, a great anti-oxidant, helps to fight infection, good for sore throats, reduces inflammation, helps with digestive problems and is a rich source of vitamins and minerals, particularly, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron and Potassium.

So, whether you need to enhance your immune system or need to support and encourage your digestion this is a wonderfully delicious tea to try.
